As "unsigned" drivers, Mac OS refuses to load them, saying they constitute a security hazard.
The old drivers still work, no problem, but are being blocked in Yosemite because they aren't "signed" properly, since they weren't re-issued for Yosemite. Open your terminal, and run sudo nvram boot-args="kext-dev-mode=1".
As soon as the screen goes black, hold down "Command" and "R" until you see a black screen with an Apple logo and a white progress bar. Steps to get your adapter working if you just upgraded to Mac OS 10.11 El Capitan. You're doing this on your own, and I assume no liability or warranty for what you do. It'll all be ok.Īs with all advice on the internet, you can't sue me if this sets fire to your cat or sends ninjas to your house. If you bought a cheap aftermarket USB-Ethernet adapter like me and found that it doesn't work on El Capitan or Yosemite, here's what you need to get it going. I think given all the reports in this conversation that it's an El Capitan bug (but which started with 10.10.5).Update Oct 2015: Updated for 10.11 El Capitan! Have tried changing the manually set IP addresses of the Mac Mini and PVR with no improvement. But, the Mac Mini can't see the PVR on the network. The green light (power) on the PVR ethernet socket is working and the yellow light (data) blinks. I've not yet browsed all the log files but, nothing appears in Console when I try to connect. Have done an IP scan and found that the PVR is not visible on the network. Installed the public 10.11 release yesterday but still no ethernet connection visible on the Mini. Tried the 10.11.1 public beta with no change. Ethernet to the PVR has not worked since.
In frustration I installed the 10.11 GM release. With 10.10.5, it took 2-3 attempts to get a connection. The ethernet connection has not worked properly since I installed OS X 10.10.5. The connection is direct - there is no router between them as they are only 30cm apart and there are no other devices connected. The Topfield has a web server and an FTP server. My Mac Mini (late 2011) is connected by ethernet to a Topfield PVR.
